The Ouagadougou Health and Demographic Surveillance System – OUAGA HDSS
Research on Vulnerability in Urban African Populations
Dimension 4: Difficulty of access to social services
Access to basic social services remains incomplete, even in cities, where these services are common. In particular, unincorporated neighborhoods do not have basic sanitation or public schools. Furthermore, the price of many services prohibits the poorest citizens from benefitting from them. Finally, geographic and social distance hinders the access of the most disadvantaged to existing services.
